This past week I had the privilege of sharing at the FCBC Jr. High Camp at Pine Summit, Big Bear. Special thanks to the directors, counselors and campers for allowing me and my family to be part of an amazing week. The theme was “IOV” or “JOY” (incomplete). Among the many things I tried to highlight was the difference between joy and happiness.
Though happiness is a feeling tied to circumstance and therefore comes and goes, joy exists apart from circumstance and therefore can be sustained through good and bad times (hence rejoicing at all times).
Here is the definition I gave the campers for joy:
“Joy is the satisfying and lasting pleasure in knowing God through Jesus.”
