Don’t forget about Japan (update)

As predicted, the world appears to have forgotten about Japan. Bin Laden’s death and a royal wedding appeared to have effectively drawn the world’s attention away from Japan.

However, the needs of the people in Japan remain great and we need to continue to pray for the people there. Pray for:

  • Aid to reach the people. Pray that the billions committed to the aid of victims would go through the necessary channels to reach the people. Currently it is not clear how much has actually reached them.
  • Sensitivity to the emotional and spiritual needs of the people. More than anything, it appears that helpers need to simply “listen” to victims and offer emotional and especially spiritual support.
  • Adequate leaders to help in the relief. Although many have committed to go to Japan with teams, there appears to be a shortage of leaders to manage these volunteers.
  • Adequate resources for the local church. With teams coming to offer relief, small local churches may feel overwhelmed trying to accommodate everybody.
  • Nuclear situation in Fukushima. It appears to much more serious than first reported especially with the high instance of contaminated water.
  • For the thousands who are displaced. Pray that the shelters would have adequate supplies to house this many people.
  • The gospel of Jesus would shine brightly in this time of need. Jesus is the best relief to the people of Japan.
